this area.

Indians. Later confirmed by English
Crown and known as Rombout Patent.

The first mill in the area was built
on the Fishkill Creek, near the
Hudson River. The site now occupied

supplied by the natural water falls.

Avenue was built.

built. Steamboats were used beginning 1828. Ferry discontinued in November 1963, upon completion of the
Beacon-Newburgh Bridge.
