Thanks to Dewey for this:

  • 1682 - First white settlers came to this area.
  • 1683 - Tract of land east of Hudson River purchased from the Indians. Later confirmed by English Crown and known as Rombout Patent. (Original Town of Fishkill)
  • 1708 - The first mill in the area was built on the Fishkill Creek, near the Hudson River. The site now occupied by Atlas Fibers Company. Power was supplied by the natural water falls.
  • 1709 - Teller Homestead on Van Nydeck Avenue was built.
  • 1743 - Ferry was installed. Sail and rowboats were used until 1816 when a houseboat was built. Steamboats were used beginning 1828. Ferry discontinued in November 1963, upon completion of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge.

Thanks The chronology below is from a pamphlet to Dewey for this:commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First National Bank of Fishkill Landing in 1963 and was graciously shared to me by Royal "Dewey" Bogardus.
