In the grand scheme of things, walking a mile uphill from the Metro-North station in Beacon up to the Bank Square section of Main Street is not a major hardship for most people, with taxis and busses providing opportunities for those disinclined to walk. The City of Austin is exploring the possibility of using detachable gondolas to move pedestrians and cyclists over congested city streets. Some background articles on the idea are at Wired, FastCompany, The Atlantic, and this video.

The question is, does this relatively low-cost idea present an opportunity to connect the Metro-North station to Main Street?

Only if they be zero carbon producing! Something's going to have to mediate the issue... the riverside of the station is blocked off this morning.

Ski resorts have long used gondolas and their siblings the chair-lift and rope-tow because of their efficiency. In recent years, most resorts have worked very hard to become carbon-neutral or better through the installation of "green" energy solutions.
